About the Author and John the Barber :
My name is Barber Darren and I am the son of John the Barber. I created this kids book with characters because my dad means the world to me and is why I am a barber also. I decided to go to barber school after high school so I could work with my dad and continue the craft.
I graduated barber school in 1995 and started working with my dad in Halifax Massachusetts where my moms side of the family grew up. I’ve been cutting hair for over 27 years. But enough about me... let’s talk about my dad who inspired this story.
John the Barber graduated barber school in 1962, 60 years ago. He worked for 5 years in Duxbury for Loui Gallerani. In 1968 John the Barber opened up his own shop in Halifax Massachusetts where’s he’s been and is still cutting hair. John is a staple in the town from coaching little league to working for the school committee. Behind the elementary school they named a ball field after him. “John Shea Field”
John has seen so many generations of clients and all walks of life in his career. He loves giving first haircuts. He bought a horse chair so that the child feels comfortable when he’s getting his haircut. And of course after the cut he has a bowl with lollipops that the child can pick from. Cutting hair from morning to night is what Barber John loves to do. Like John says, “if you find a job you love you’ll never work a day in your life”.
